We were invited by Jerry Blaine, CEO of LDI, to address a group of key clients and partners at the opening of a new LDI facility in Parsippany, NJ on Sept. 25, 2017. Ideally situated near three major road arteries, the location is easily accessible for LDI’s northern New Jersey customers.
Similar to other LDI offices, the Parsippany location looks more like a facility devoted to a consulting organization as opposed to a business whose core is centered on hardware. LDI has had a presence in New Jersey for a number of years and their client list reflects that. Some of these clients were invited to the opening and treated to presentations by LDI executives, including Jerry Blaine; Ray Romano, VP of sales; and Senior VP of Marketing Brian Gertler.
LDI is one of Canon’s leading dealers and Canon has always been at the forefront of the manufacturers of the manufacturers Jerry has represented throughout his many years in the business, going back to when he started in the industry with Leslie Supply in 1975. LDI also sells products from Sharp, Samsung, and Toshiba
We were invited to speak briefly about LDI and where they fit in the world of print technology. We explained that LDI is universally accepted as a leader in transitioning the business from a hardware orientation to an organization capable of providing software and services. Overall these solutions are designed to improve workflow, overall efficiency, and enhance productivity. LDI also excels in the graphic arts and has a rich history in color.
When Jerry started LDI in 1999 it was a challenging time for a startup of any kind. The copier business was in a severe decline and print was looking like it would soon follow. He also had to consider that he would be competing against some formidable competitors with a long history in the business and well-established reputations for providing quality products and services
We explained that what Jerry did was create a customer-centric business that went far beyond being a hardware provider. The mission became a simple one—help the customer find their true potential. Those are my words not Jerry’s and he knew that to succeed he had to put together a team of highly competent professionals who would understand and implement this strategy.
At that point, Jerry had 26 years-experience in the copier and print arena. The greatest complement to his leadership was that he was able to take 21 sales and support professionals who had worked with him previously and integrate them into this new organization. They hit the ground running and in 18 years went from 0 to an estimated $70 million in revenues. That growth continued even as the country experienced the biggest economic downturn since the Great Depression from 2008–2012. Through it all, LDI did not miss a beat.
When insiders in our industry gather and discuss the independent dealer channel somewhere along the line it is usually noted by one analyst or another that LDI is an industry leader and Jerry Blaine is one of the most able CEO’s in the business.
We fully expect this independent dealership to continue to break new ground as they work with leading corporations in the key market segments of the business such as healthcare, legal, and education. We congratulate our old friend Jerry Blaine for all that he has accomplished and know that there is much more to come.
