A look at where we’ve been so far and where we’re going for our 2018 dealer tour coverage.
(Pictured above: Our dealer tour article scheduled for June will highlight our visit to Modern Office Methods in Cincinnati.)
When planning this year’s dealer road tour, we wanted to take advantage as much as possible of locations that offered multiple opportunities to visit dealers. After CJ and Scott, traveled to Portland to meet with Pacific Office Automation and attend their annual sales meeting in January, the first stop in our multi-dealer approach was Dallas in March, meeting with ImageNet and Stewart Organization. We also took advantage of our time in Dallas to visit with Muratec President Jim D’Emidio and his team.
Our next stop took us to Cincinnati in April, which was a truly unique opportunity. There are three dealers located in that city—Donnellon McCarthy Enterprises, Modern Office Methods, and ProSource. If that is not a dealer trifecta I don’t know what is. We have known each of these dealers for many years. Individually, they are proven winners within the independent dealer channel. It is rare that we attend a manufacturer dealer meeting where one of those dealers is not receiving an award or recognition.
To say that these businesses are very competitive would be a vast understatement. The proximity of such accomplished dealerships to one another tends to sharpen that spirit of competitiveness. In the end that competitive edge only makes each of these dealerships better. Each of these dealerships have very different cultures and each illustrates how the copier dealer is evolving into consultancies that focus on improving technology in the workplace. Each of these dealerships have also done an excellent job of navigating within the SMB space.
These three dealerships are also holding their own in Managed Services and production print. Cumulatively, the companies they represent include Canon, HP, Konica Minolta. Lexmark, Ricoh, Toshiba, and Sharp. Missing among that group of OEMs is Kyocera. In our opinion that will soon be remedied.
Donnellon McCarthy Enterprises, Modern Office Methods, and ProSource possess the technology, the legacy of long-established businesses, and a reputation for supporting their customers. When you talk about a dealership doing business in Cincinnati, understand too that market often includes Dayton, Columbus, and portions of Kentucky.
Our dealer tour was designed and intended to facilitate our transition plans for CJ. He has learned a great deal from all the dealers we have visited. In this latest trip he earned a Master’s Degree in Channel Marketing. I can never thank these dealers enough.
In subsequent issues of our report you will be reading individual articles about each of these three Cincinnati-based dealerships. The articles will appear in the order that we visited them. We want to collectively thank each of these dealers for taking the time to meet with us. It was an incredible business experience and opportunity, and each hosted us in a manner that neither CJ or I will soon forget.
As we continue the tour with stops in Baltimore, Cleveland, Denver, Minneapolis, and San Diego, CJ will surely gain a lot credits towards his Ph.D. I will also be assured that when the day comes, he will be well-grounded in his understanding of our audience.
