Feb. 1 • Sharp has acquired Preferred Business Solutions in Kent, Washington. Preferred Business Solutions is a Canon and Ricoh dealer that is strong in document management and Managed IT.
Feb. 2 • Visual Edge Technology announced the acquisitions of two companies that will support its strategic growth on the East Coast: JANCO Business Systems in Wolcott, Connecticut, and FastForward Managed Solutions in Miami, Florida. JANCO, a full-service office equipment provider for 30-plus years, will join sales and support forces with neighboring dealer American Copy Service (ACS), also a Visual Edge company. Both organizations will continue under the leadership of Visual Edge-owned Axion Business Technologies. The acquisition of FastForward Digital Solutions supports Visual Edge’s continued strategy to expand in the managed IT services (MITS) space.
Feb. 3 • Visual Edge Technology, Inc. acquired Zymphony Technology Solutions, a provider of managed IT solutions, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, and hosted IT solutions. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida, with two additional locations in Orlando and Sarasota, Zymphony specializes in managing IT infrastructure and providing end-to-end business solutions that incorporate cloud computing, PC/Mac support, server and network monitoring, managed security services, and business optimization software.
Feb. 8 • Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P. (THL), a private-equity firm investing in middle-market growth companies, has signed a definitive agreement under which funds affiliated with THL will acquire Alfresco Software, Inc., an enterprise open-source provider of process automation, content management, and information governance software. Founded in 2005 and headquartered in San Mateo, California, and Maidenhead, United Kingdom, Alfresco’s software is reportedly used by 11 million people within organizations in 195 countries worldwide.
Feb. 14 • DPE Deutsche Private Equity (“DPE”) and its co-investors reached a definitive agreement to sell their majority holding in Elatec, a global provider of multi-standard RFID readers, through a majority recapitalization by global growth equity investor Summit Partners. DPE and its co-investors will retain a minority stake in the company. The transaction is subject to investment review by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and is expected to close in the first half of 2018.
Feb. 14 • OpenText, a provider of Enterprise Information Management (EIM), acquired Hightail, Inc., formerly known as YouSendIt, a cloud service for file sharing and creative collaboration with approximately 5.5 million customers globally, spanning enterprise accounts, paid subscribers, and individual consumers.
Feb. 15 • Two multi-brand document technology dealers located in the Midwest””Wisconsin-based Rhyme and Proven Business Systems, headquartered in Tinley Park, Illinois””joined the Xerox channel partner program.
Feb. 22 • Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. announced the asset acquisition of VioPoint, Inc., an Auburn Hills, Michigan-based company specializing in intelligent cyber security. VioPoint’s team of cybersecurity experts will become part of All Covered, the IT Services division of Konica Minolta.
