- Number of Respondents: This year’s 40th Annual Dealer Survey was completed by 415 office technology dealers who, based on our comprehensive database, conservatively represent approximately 20% of the independent dealerships in the United States. That impressive response rate is the second largest in the history of our survey. (There were 401 respondents last year.)
- Total Annual Revenue: In total, 2024 channel revenues for the 415 responding dealerships were $6.9B, down from $9.4B last year.
- Average Yearly Revenue: The average yearly revenue reported by all responding dealers was $16.7 million, which is down from $23.5 million last year and $17.2 million the previous year.
- Shifting Market Share: For this year’s Survey, 78% of dealers (324) took in under $15 million, and 83 dealers (22%) reported revenues exceeding $15 million.
- Revenue Fluctuation: More than two-thirds (67%) of responding dealers reported that their revenue was up in 2024 by an average of 14% (similar to the last year); 19% of dealers surveyed saw revenue decline by an average of 7.9%. (Last year, only 9% of dealers reported decreased revenues.) And, 14% reported revenue as flat (unchanged).
- Primary Revenue Source: A3 and A4 MFP and printer sales/service represented 66% (65.7%) of 2024 revenue for those dealers surveyed.
- MPS Revenue: Revenue from managed print services (MPS) accounted for another 13%—the second-highest source of revenue. (Note: Several dealers integrate MPS in their overall A3 and A4 numbers, so the actual percentage is likely much higher.) When combined, the office technology industry’s core business of A3 and A4 MFP and print sales/service, and MPS, represents 79% of 2024 revenue.
- Leading A4 Supplier: Kyocera continues as the leading A4 supplier (18%) among respondents, followed by Sharp (15%) and Ricoh (14%).
- Managed IT Services Providers: Nearly half (47%) provide managed IT services as a source of recurring revenue in 2024.
- Managed IT Services Revenue: Office technology dealers reported revenue from managed information technology (IT) services was up nearly 30% over last year. Among the 115 dealers who said their managed IT revenue grew from 2023 to 2024, the average increase was 28.8%.
- Production Printing Revenues: Almost 6% (5.9%) of overall dealer revenue now is derived from selling and servicing toner or inkjet production printing digital presses.
- Acquisition Activity: 45% (187) of participating dealers indicated they planned to purchase a fellow dealership or service company in 2025 and beyond, which is flat in comparison to last year.
