Impact Optimize2019, a one-day digital business summit, has announced the addition of infamous Canadian reformed hacker, Michael “MafiaBoy” Calce to this year’s event. HP, an Impact Optimize2019 Gold Sponsor, secured “MafiaBoy” to speak on the main stage at this year’s conference taking place on Thursday, August 8th, 2019 at Navy Pier.
Michael Calce is Canada’s most notorious White Hat hacker, a cyber-security expert, and the author of ‘How I Cracked the Internet and Why It’s Still Broken’. At the age of 15, Michael launched a series of high-profile denial-of-service attacks against large commercial websites, including eBay, Amazon, and E*Trade – it has been estimated that these attacks cost the organizations upwards of $1 billion dollars in lost revenue. According to a former CIA agent, the attacks by “MafiaBoy” can be credited to the significant increase in online security starting in 2000.
“We are very excited to have Michael Calce speaking at Impact Optimize2019. As a White Hat hacker and cybersecurity expert, he has a unique perspective about the cybersecurity landscape and cybercriminals,” said Impact Optimize Co-founder and Impact CTO, Frank DeGeorge. “Businesses looking to take the first step in digital transformation need to consider the security risks associated with change and Michael Calce’s session will paint a clear picture of the possible threats.”
Today, Michael Calce is the president of Optimal Secure, a Montreal-based cybersecurity firm specializing in penetration testing, and the chairman of the HP Security Advisory Board. His session at Impact Optimize2019, “The Mindset of a Hacker,” will provide a unique perspective on the motives of cybercriminals and their tactics by highlighting the unique methods and entry points being targeted today.
