Acquisitions, a big departure, two big promotions, a new hire, a prominent appointment, and a new product introduction make this month’s cut.
Another month, another top 10 stories. And we had some big ones in the month of November. There were also some less prominent stories competing for a spot on our monthly list. As always, you are welcome to debate those stories that we’ve highlighted as well as the omissions. Now, without further ado, here are what we deem the top 10 stories of the month.
Kofax Acquires Nuance ““ Kofax, a supplier of Intelligent Automation software to automate and digitally transform end-to-end business processes, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Nuance Document Imaging (NDI), a division of Nuance Communications, Inc. NDI provides software to help organizations optimize their information-based capture and print processes from being labor intensive, error prone and costly, into becoming highly efficient, automated and secure, according to a Kofax press release. “Through the acquisition of Nuance’s document imaging division, Kofax will drive customer value by adding key technologies, including cloud compatibility, scan-to-archive, scan-to-workflow, print management and document security, to our end-to-end Intelligent Automation platform,” said Reynolds C. Bish, CEO, Kofax. “In addition we will now be able to combine the best capture and print management capabilities available in the market into one product portfolio.”
Lexmark President Resigns for Personal Reasons – Lexmark International, Inc., announced on Nov. 21 that Rich Geruson has decided to resign from his positions as president, CEO and director of Lexmark for personal reasons, effective immediately. Geruson assumed the position in October of 2017 having replaced former president & CEO David Reeder who resigned in June 2017 for, you guessed it, “personal reasons.” Reeder had been named president & CEO in November 2016. A search for a successor is underway. In the interim, Lexmark will be led by an executive management committee consisting of Allen Waugerman, senior vice president and chief technology officer; Brent Lambert, senior vice president, chief legal officer and secretary; and Vivian Liu, senior vice president and chief financial officer.
Marco Expands Footprint with Phillips Acquisition ““ Marco, a leading technology services provider in the United States, has announced the acquisition of East Coast dealership Phillips Office Solutions. Since starting 78 years ago, Phillips has become a leading provider of copier/printers and document management solutions. The company has 140 employees at 10 offices across Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Gordon Flesch Company Names Next-Generation Leadership – The Gordon Flesch Company has named Patrick Flesch as President and Mark Flesch as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Having served as sales managers and vice presidents of sales for the Gordon Flesch Company, this promotion will help ensure a third generation of the Flesch family can continue the GFC legacy. Family owned since 1956, Mark and Patrick are continuing the legacy of founder Gordon Flesch, who began the company selling and servicing Thermofax machines from the back of his car. The Gordon Flesch Company is now one of the nation’s largest independent providers of business technology and is the largest independent Canon dealer in the United States with more than 600 employees in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, according to the company.
Visual Edge Acquires Zeno Imaging – Visual Edge Technology has announced the acquisition of Zeno Imaging. The partnership looks to expand the Visual Edge network across Texas and the Southwest portion of the U.S. and marks the second company that Zeno’s owner, Tom Frederick, has brought to Visual Edge. Jake Guarino, president of Zeno for the last four years, along with the company’s existing management team, will remain and continue to lead Zeno’s daily operations. Frederick will stay on as a consultant to Visual Edge after the acquisition is finalized.
Sharp Appoints New Vice President of Marketing – Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America has announced that Bob Madaio has joined the organization as its new vice president of marketing. In this position, Madaio will report directly to SIICA President and CEO Mike Marusic and will be responsible for the organization’s B2B marketing efforts across networked multifunctional printers, professional displays and its growing smart office and IT solutions business.
Managed Print Services Association Appoints New President – The Managed Print Services Association (MPSA) has announced that Tawnya Stone, vice president, strategic technology, GreatAmerica Financial Services, serves as the association’s president, effective November 1, 2018. Stone replaces Doug Bies, who served as president since August 2017. Bies has resigned to increase his focus on responsibilities at his employer, CDS. Prior to November, Stone had served as vice president of the MPSA for just over a year. She is the first female president for the association.
Ricoh Acquires ColorGATE Digital Output Solutions – Ricoh Company, Ltd. has announced that the company has reached an agreement to acquire ColorGATE Digital Output Solutions GmbH. Peter Williams, corporate vice President and general manager of Commercial and Industrial Printing Business Group, Ricoh, says, “By combining ColorGATE’s proprietary software technology with our own industrial printers, Ricoh will provide solutions covering the whole printing workflow from Pre-Press to Post-Press. This acquisition will enable ColorGATE to expand its industrial printing business and global presence as together we become better able to support our customers to accelerate their transition from analogue to digital based production.”
Konica Minolta Launches Workplace Hub ““ A new survey by Konica Minolta, Inc. into small and medium-sized businesses has revealed that the vast number of IT challenges experienced daily are actively hampering business’ success. Linked to the latest release of its technology platform, Workplace Hub, Konica Minolta commissioned the research to further reinforce its understanding of SMBs. Konica Minolta have released Hub and Edge as the first two products to support SMBs in this category. The first product from this portfolio, known as the Hub, optimizes office space for those who need it, building an IoT infrastructure with servers and software in a 1 meter-squared space. Edge, a solution for those looking to boost performance from their server room, is a managed IT service that can complement existing systems to manage specific operational tasks or replace and manage all IT.
UBEO Merges with Ray Morgan Company ““ UBEO Business Services has announced its merger with Ray Morgan Company, the largest independent Canon dealer in the Western United State. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. “The partnership with Ray Morgan will be transformational for the UBEO companies,” said Jim Sheffield, president and CEO of UBEO. “The transaction combines two leading, best-in-class operators in a highly attractive industry and establishes a dominant position on the West Coast. This merger significantly enlarges our geographic footprint, doubles our acquisition pipeline, and creates a “˜consolidator of choice’ within the industry.”
