DOCUmation is celebrating 35 years of business growth, built on a legacy of innovation that stretches back multiple decades. Today, it is the largest privately-held technology solutions company in Texas—a distinction built on decades of trusted service, deep local roots, and an unwavering commitment to our customers.
Before the company officially opened its doors in 1990, founder Lou Scantland had already helped revolutionize the way businesses worked by introducing some of the first plain paper copiers to American offices. Carrying forward that spirit of innovation and service, DOCUmation quickly became a trusted partner to Texas businesses—starting with copiers and fax machines, and evolving over the years to deliver managed IT services, cybersecurity, workflow automation, VoIP communications, and more.
Flashback: In 1990, fax machines were a staple in every office, the World Wide Web had just been invented, and Microsoft was introducing Windows 3.0. Business technology was on the brink of a whole new era.
“DOCUmation’s story has always been about growth—growth in our capabilities, our reach, and the impact we have on the businesses we serve,” says Hunter Woolfolk, co-CEO. “The pace of technology will only keep accelerating, and we’re proud to help our customers stay ahead of it.”
What started as a local company in San Antonio has grown into a true Texas powerhouse. Today, DOCUmation supports businesses of all sizes through statewide offices, with a major presence in San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Midland. Reach also extends to West Texas markets like Odessa and Alpine, into Central Texas communities such as Waco and the Texas Hill Country, and throughout South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley. To ensure fast, reliable support across the state, the dealership operate strategic warehouse facilities in North and Central Texas.
Today, DOCUmation is home to more than 200 employees across Texas. We’ve been honored as one of the Top 3 Large Companies to Work for in Texas, earned Best Place to Work awards in every major market we serve, and were named a USA Today Top Workplace. These awards reflect what we’ve always believed: that investing in people is the best investment we can make.
DOCUmation is proud to serve thousands of businesses across Texas—and just as proud to support the communities it calls home. They’re also a proud partner of the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, and Dallas Mavericks, standing alongside organizations that represent excellence on and off the court.
As the dealer celebrates 35 years, its focus is firmly on the future. It’s expanding services, strengthening customer experiences, and helping businesses across Texas adapt to whatever comes next.
“We’ve always embraced change,” says Co-CEO Preston Woolfolk. “It’s not about selling the latest technology—it’s about understanding what our customers need and being ready for whatever comes next.”
Tools may change, but the mission stays the same: to help businesses work smarter, grow faster, and achieve more.
