Given the extraordinary circumstances we are all experiencing, and how the coronavirus outbreak is especially affecting the independent dealer channel, we hesitated to initiate our 35th Anniversary Dealer Survey. However, knowing how crucial data about the industry will be going forward, we launched the Survey on April 10 and are extremely thankful to the dealers who have participated thus far.
Before the COVID 19 pandemic, the industry was already experiencing disruptive change at unprecedented speed. The upheaval dealers were experiencing was monumental. That is why the intelligence and data you can share with us about your dealership in 2019 is crucial. We know this year’s Survey is one of the most important we have conducted, and the results will prove invaluable. The feedback you share with us, especially when measured against data collected for 2020 next year, will provide the industry with vital intelligence necessary to help navigate what lies ahead. One final note: in his Frankly Speaking column in early January, Frank G. Cannata wrote about the changes and opportunities that the next decade will bring to the channel. He isn’t a soothsayer and didn’t foresee the pandemic, but he did address that while change and evolution can be disruptive, they can also provide growth opportunities. I think his final point that “the entrepreneurs we have followed for close to a half a century are fully capable of dealing with whatever comes their way” rings true today now more than ever.
