The Cannata Report’s 33rd Annual Awards & Charities Dinner, sponsored by Hytec Dealer Services, PSIGEN Software, and Continuum was Alive & Kicking.

We are thrilled to confirm that over $185,000 was raised and pledged for Tackle Kids Cancer, a philanthropic program benefiting the Children’s Cancer Institute at Hackensack Meridian Health Hackensack University Medical Center. To date, The Cannata Report has donated nearly $750,000 to Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation. Since the inception of our annual dinner, close to $2.5 million dollars has been donated to numerous charitable organizations nationwide.

We were pleased to welcome close to 300 guests representing 75 companies from virtually every industry business segment””dealers, manufacturers, leasing, software, IT, and more””this year. We are especially grateful so many of our guests were joining us for the first time.

This year, we also celebrated five years of our Women Influencers and Young Influencers editorial franchises. With virtually all the women who have been featured in our Women Influencers editorial coverage in attendance this year””along with several thought leaders who have been featured in our Young Influencers editorial coverage””one of the evening’s highlights was gathering all the “influencers” in attendance at the dinner and having them join us on stage for a larger-than-life photo opportunity.

Excellence in the industry was acknowledged based on the results of our Annual Dealer Survey, exclusively sponsored by TIAA for the fifth consecutive year, with the presentation of Frank Awards in nine categories. The night included some key firsts, while winning streaks continued for others.

Sharp scored the night’s biggest tally with wins in four categories, most notably Best-in-Class Manufacturer and Best A3 MFP Manufacturer. Because our Annual Dealer Survey reflects performances for calendar year 2017, Laura Blackmer””current senior vice president of dealer sales at Konica Minolta””was recognized for her 2017 tenure at Sharp as Best Female Executive. Blackmer is the only executive to win this award since it was introduced in 2015. Also recognized for his 2017 tenure at Sharp was Doug Albregts as Best Male Executive.

Kyocera’s new president and CEO Oscar Sanchez, who attending the event for the first time accepted the Frank for Best A4 MFP Manufacturer. Another new attendee, Anthony Agliata, accepted Canon U.S.A.’s Frank Award for Best Production Print Manufacturer.

Streaks continued in several categories. Konica Minolta extended its winning streak for Best Marketing Strategy for the second year in a row. GreatAmerica Financial Services was named Best Leasing Company, the only company to win the award since its introduction in 2015. Also extending a winning streak was ACDI as Best Software & Services Provider, the only company to achieve that honor since the category’s inception in 2015.

It was our honor to salute industry icon Tom Johnson with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Johnson’s contributions are renowned and his benchmark model for improving operations and evaluating potential acquisitions in the independent dealer channel has made a positive, lasting impact across the office technology industry. Tom was hailed by those in the capacity-filled ballroom at The Madison Hotel in Morristown, N.J., with resounding applause and a standing ovation.

After announcing the winners of the Frank Awards, we at The Cannata Report made a special announcement of our own. As of January 2019, CJ Cannata will assume the role of president and CEO of The Cannata Report. Our founder Frank G. Cannata will continue to serve as editor-at-large.

For the first time, the after party, sponsored by All Covered, the IT services division of Konica Minolta, featured live music and dancing. Many guests took to the dance floor, enjoyed specialty cocktails, and treated themselves to the chocolate dessert bar that Carol Cannata conceived with the hotel’s chef. All Covered provided a beautiful “take-home” box for guests to carry home their favorite desserts. On a final note, Frank G. Cannata furthered his claim that he reigns supreme above CJ on the dance floor (but below Carol, of course), though he and CJ have yet to come to a consensus.

For the many female executives in attendance, the event extended into Friday morning with a yoga class taught by our own Sharon Esker followed by our Third Annual Women Influencers Brunch hosted by lead sponsor AMETEK ESP, along with co-sponsors EFI, Konica Minolta, and Supplies Network, with special thanks to Kyocera. Carol Cannata designed a limited edition tote bag with the creative team at EFI Reggiani in Milan. Inside the bag was a collection of thoughtful gifts from AMETEK ESP, Supplies Network, and Kyocera, as well as a set of boxed note cards that Carol created in collaboration with Konica Minolta.

Special thanks go to Eric Auman, president and CEO, Hytec Dealer Services; Glenn Johnson, president, PSIGEN Software; and Michael George, president and CEO, Continuum, for their official Cannata Dinner sponsorships that allow us to donate 100% of the evening’s proceeds to Tackle Kids Cancer.

THANK YOU…Hytec, PSIGEN, and first-time sponsor Continuum…Sharp, with thanks to John Menzzasalma, James Campion, and Barry Geller for producing the awards ceremony (Barry, we will miss you!)…All Covered for sponsoring the after party…TIAA Bank for sponsoring our Annual Dealer Survey for the fifth consecutive year and for providing guests with event transportation…LDI Color ToolBox for creating our signage, badges, and table cards, with special thanks to Jerry Blaine and Brian Gertler…Rick Bastinelli, Centric Business Systems; Frank Gaspari, FlexPrint; and Larry Weiss, Atlantic, Tomorrow’s Office, for their personal donations and pledges.
