The Cannata Report and Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation Launch Online Fundraising Website for 40th Anniversary Awards and Charities Gala
Michael McGuirk, a dear friend and a dealer beloved by so many people in the industry, passed away on January 4, 2025. He battled diabetes for years and eventually succumbed to it.
Most people remember Mike as the president of ProCopy in Tempe, Arizona. He did so much more than that. He was extremely active in the Business Technology Association. He was a member of the National BTA Board and served as president of the Select Dealer Group, a leading independent dealer organization. He invited us to attend a meeting in Oahu, Hawaii, in 2020, that Carol and I thoroughly enjoyed.
Mike was a man who took pleasure in helping others and was respected by the manufacturers his dealership was associated with. He was a member of the Ricoh Dealer Council, which speaks volumes about his standing in the industry.
Mike was well-liked by so very many people. Once you got to know him personally, you could easily understand why. He, however, could never understand why people were always saying wonderful things about him.
We best remember him from a BTA East Regional Meeting in 2019, when we were searching for him at the hotel and couldn’t find him. We knew he was coming and finally found him in a wheelchair because his right leg had been amputated. I explained to him we were going to have dinner at a private club in Greenwich Village. I asked if he was up for it, and he said absolutely. The hotel door attendant arranged for a special cab, and we all went together, having an exceptionally enjoyable time. To say that he was an inspiration would be a vast understatement.
In mid-2022, Carol and I attended his retirement party in Phoenix, and the place was packed. Kelly, his wife, did an incredible job as hostess, and we were thrilled to be there.
Mike did it all, from salesperson to owning ProCopy, which he eventually sold to Flex Technology Group. He had a 40-year history in our industry, and you will never find a person who knew him say anything other than he was the best.
Bob Goldberg shared the following with me about Mike:
At ECS, I opened the Summit with a tribute to Mike McGuirk. Mike was an incredible individual. Mike was devoted to the industry. He was a mentor to all by sharing his knowledge and experiences. He always had a smile on his face that became contagious. He was dedicated to numerous charities and foundations. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and a staunch supporter of Arizona State University.
After selling to Flex Technology Group, he was asked to identify like-minded dealers to consider,” Bob continued. “He was successful in finding individuals like Kevin Marshall. You may recall that at the Cannata Gala, I made a joke directed at Mike. Prior to doing so, I shared it with Mike, and he encouraged me to proceed. Subsequently, Mike advised that he knew that night he had made it in the industry when he was referenced at the Cannata Gala.
I was fortunate to share a golf cart with Mike on several occasions. All that I remember about those rounds is my conversations with Mike. He was a wonderful individual who is missed greatly.
Mike is survived by his wife of 24 years, Kelly, and their three children: sons Matt and Nick, and daughter Makenzie.
We are honoring Mike and his contributions to our industry at our 40th Anniversary Awards and Charities Gala on November 13, 2025, by raising funds in his name for diabetes research being conducted at the Inserra Family Diabetes Institute at Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center.
In partnership with Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation, we’ve launched a dedicated website to augment the funds raised through ticket sales and sponsorship fees for our Gala. The fundraising website offers an opportunity for friends and colleagues nationwide to come together and honor Mike’s legacy. We hope that the website will allow Mike’s many friends, colleagues, and admirers to pay tribute to him while supporting diabetes research at one of the country’s leading medical research institutions.
