Mark Vruno sits down with Andrew Ritschel, founder and dealer principal of Electronic Office Systems, to discuss Ritschel’s perspective on current economic conditions, the importance of customer retention, and the strategies his dealership is using to remain competitive in today’s evolving marketplace. Electronic Office Systems is the focus of our March CR Connect Dealer Tour, presented by U.S. Bank.
With a strong, loyal customer base of approximately 4,000 small- to mid-sized businesses and a customer retention rate of about 90 percent, Electronic Office Systems‘ success, says Ritschel, is rooted in a service philosophy centered on treating customers with what he calls “kid gloves,” emphasizing attentiveness and responsiveness to each client’s unique expectations. He also cites a concept he calls the “Platinum Rule” as having served EOS well throughout its 43 years in business.
A major challenge an independent dealer like his faces today is how to market the business. Advertising in the Yellow Pages, once the cornerstone of his marketing plan, has been replaced by search engine optimization and AI-driven search results. Throughout the conversation, Ritschel emphasizes that success in the office technology industry is not a destination but an ongoing process. After more than four decades in the business, he says the key is to continue adapting, evolving, and consistently delivering value to customers.
