Fridays with Frank – COULD PRODUCTION INKJET PRINTING BE A CHANNEL SAVIOR?

In this week’s episode, Founder Frank G. Cannata continues a discussion with RISO’s Andre D’Urbano about production inkjet printing. The OEM’s sales VP reports that, based on its black ink sales, nearly 2 billion impressions were printed on RISO devices in 2024. D’Urbano contends that inkjet technology could be a key to survival for some dealer/distributors. At a cost of only about a penny per page, injet could be a crucial element to improving profitability for resellers. “You can print color more affordably, he exclaims!

Times are lean and “we are living in a light production world,” D’Urbano continues, with shorter print runs and more print jobs. He points out how price increases flow down-market from Corporate America, but “nobody wants to cut back on personnel or move to a smaller location,” he adds. For Cannata, it seems like a no-brainer. They both ponder why a print shop wouldn’t want to adopt a technology that has a lower cost of printing. Frank believes that inkjet makes economic sense and “is a good way to go!” It’s a positive point of emphasis for the industry. Have a safe Labor Day Weekend, everyone!
