Fridays with Frank – BTA Offers Legal Counsel for Office Technology Dealers

In this episode, Founder Frank G. Cannata talks legalese with Greg Goldberg, general counsel for the Business Technology Association (BTA), who explains that he literally grew up in the office tech industry. Greg recalls, as a young boy, attending NOMDA meetings with his father, Bob Goldberg, who retired in 2024 as BTA’s longtime general counsel. He emphasizes his whole-hearted commitment to continuing the Goldberg legacy at the BTA. The younger Goldberg has come into the industry during an “interesting” period. Lately, he spends much of his time helping dealers navigate the dynamic landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs). Particularly on the sales side, troubleshooting AI can be challenging. Goldberg envisions his role as being able to peek “around the corners . . . to see what’s coming.” As a seasoned litigator for more than 20 years, he is accustomed to helping companies manage risk and urges dealer owners to keep in mind that AI is a tool, not a replacement.

Advocating for smaller, independent dealerships is another major component of what Goldberg does on behalf of BTA and its 500 member companies. Moving forward, the association must ensure that organizations of all sizes—small and large dealers alike—have a seat at the table, he believes. One final AI thought: Do you have an “AI Statement of Principles” in place?
