Fridays with Frank – Why Katun Is an Important Office Technology Player

by Mark Vruno

In this episode, Founder Frank G. Cannata waxes philosophically, wondering aloud why some industry observers downplay the role of Katun Corporation, the Minneapolis-based company acquired in 2018 by General Plastic Industrial (GPI) of Taiwan. Perhaps not so well known in the United States, Katun has earned Cannata’s respect over the past three and a half decades as a truly global force. Citing its competitive aftermarket toner products as a prime example, he recognizes it as a first-class organization operating at a high quality level.

Strong office technology distribution across Europe

Before dismissing Katun as a small player, Cannata encourages viewers to consider its robust international distribution network, which serves 13 European countries from a distribution center in the Netherlands and headquarters in Milan, Italy (reaching into Africa, too). What many people fail to realize, he notes, is how well-balanced the company is. Kay Fernandez, VP of global marketing, has pointed out that Katun’s sales in Europe are stronger than in both North America and Latin America. Sometimes, Frank concludes, it helps to keep an open mind and broaden our perspective.
