Vinyl Thoughts: Let the Bidding Begin

by Scott Cullen

A highlight of this year’s Awards & Charities Gala was an auction of signed vintage record albums from 1982. Each album included a certificate of authenticity, validating that the signatures were authentic. Bidding was brisk, and the auction raised an additional $2,000 for the Marie Cusumano Endowed Scholarship at the Hackensack Meridian School.

Our Editor-in-Chief Scott Cullen served as the auctioneer. In honor of our theme, Shake It Up, the auction included The Cars’ Shake It Up album signed by all five band members, including deceased members Benjamin Orr and Ric Ocasek. Congratulations to Jeff Ragusa of Applied Business Concepts, who had the winning bid. Next was a signed Olivia Newton-John Physical album, with the winning bid placed by ACDI’s Mark Hart. Bidding was especially intense for an autographed Michael Jackson Thriller album, with Jim George of Donnellon McCarthy Enterprises taking home the King of Pop’s masterpiece.

We had so much fun with this auction, which was added to shake it up this year, and are planning to do something similar next year.
