Open Interoperability Technologies Welcomes Ecosteer as Founding Member

The partnership represents a tangible step toward creating a real technology platform through Workplace Asset Lifecycle Management (WALM).

Press release from the issuing companies:

Open Interoperability Technologies (OIT) and Ecosteer have announced that Ecosteer has joined OIT as a founding member, bringing its data visibility control overlay (DVCO) technology into the OIT ecosystem.

Ecosteer’s DVCO uses cryptographic protection to secure data at its source while allowing authorized data owners to grant or revoke visibility to selected parties. The technology is designed for connected-device environments and supports secure data sharing while maintaining control of the underlying data.

Ecosteer brings significant experience in this area, including microcontroller integration and open-source Data Ownership Platform middleware through the EU-supported NGI TrustChain programme; a secure audit trail and telemetry data-sharing project with the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF); real-time mobility data sharing with AMT, Genova’s Public Transport Operator; and a strategic partnership with EMQX, an MQTT platform provider, for secure, real-time IoT exchange.

Through OIT, Ecosteer technology will be integrated into WALM — Workplace Asset Lifecycle Management — helping organizations securely connect, monitor, manage, and derive value from data generated throughout the lifecycle of workplace assets.

WALM will leverage TWAIN Working Group interoperability standards to connect IoT devices—including scanners, intelligent equipment, and robots—creating an open foundation for secure data exchange across diverse technology ecosystems.

The combination of OIT interoperability, TWAIN standards, WALM, and Ecosteer’s DVCO technology creates a foundation for connecting workplace assets, protecting their data, controlling data visibility, and ultimately creating new services and revenue opportunities from the data those assets generate.

Building on DVCO’s built-in runtime crypto-agility and Ecosteer’s open-source cryptoagility framework, OIT and Ecosteer will explore evolving security requirements, including the transition toward post-quantum cryptography (PQC).

“Interoperability without control over data visibility is incomplete. By joining OIT, Ecosteer will bring source-enforced data visibility into the interoperability model, enabling connected workplace assets to share data across any platform while organizations retain effective control over who can see and use each stream. This is how secure, sovereign IoT ecosystems must be built,” said Elena Pasquali, CEO and co-founder of Ecosteer.

About Ecosteer

Ecosteer develops technologies for secure, decentralized data sharing. Its Data Visibility Control Overlay (DVCO) moves control over data visibility from collection and distribution platforms to the point where data is generated: any connected device. By enforcing visibility policies at source, DVCO shifts the enforcement of data sovereignty from the cloud to the edge.

About Open Interoperability Technologies

Open Interoperability Technologies (OIT) builds open ecosystems connecting devices, applications, AI, and data. OIT helps technology companies transform interoperable operational data into intelligence, services, and new revenue opportunities.
