In this episode, Founder Frank G. Cannata is pleased to introduce Tom Chaby, a U.S. veteran and retired Navy SEAL (Sea, Air, and Land) Team member. Of Captain Chaby’s 26 years serving as a special operator, nearly half of them were spent overseas. He first deployed to Afghanistan shortly after 9/11 in 2001.
12 of Chaby’s veteran brethren have succumbed to cancer
Proud to serve his country, Capt. Chaby says his military experience was all about loyalty and brotherhood. Sadly, he shares that a dozen of his comrades have been lost to cancer, which they contracted on the battlefield. Cannata cites a shocking statistic: While SEALs comprise only 3% of all Navy personnel, these brave warriors account for 40% of the cancer cases. Chaby notes that catching a disease is not something soldiers typically consider. They may think about dying in combat, but not from what he calls the secondary, more insidious risks. Early detection is key, and he pleads with viewers to consider supporting the Precision Medicine for Military Veterans initiative. Attendees to The Cannata Report’s 41st Annual Awards & Charities Gala on November 19 will fight cancer that plagues these patriotic veterans by raising funds for treatment and research.
