Approximately 6% of overall dealer revenue in 2024 was derived from the sale and service of toner or inkjet production printing digital presses.
Note that not all dealers separate their production print hardware sales from traditional A3 and A4 hardware sales. As a result, our revenue percentages are based on those dealers who provided us with this information.
Readers of The Cannata Report are keenly aware that we are proponents of production printing as a viable diversification product offering. In this year’s Survey, more than half of the respondents, approximately 57%–a first in 40 years—sold production printing presses. That number represents a double-digit increase of 13% over the 44% of dealers who were involved in production printing in 2023.
For the first time this year, we asked dealers:
“Who is your primary production printing provider?”
Here’s where the manufacturers ranked among the 237 responses we received:

It should come as no surprise that larger dealers, with revenues exceeding $100 million annually, are among the most diversified. Fully 100% of the 18 dealers who reported revenue exceeding $75 million are engaged in production printing; 94% of the 54 dealers who reported revenue exceeding $25,000 are engaged in production printing; and 92% of the 120 dealers who reported revenue exceeding $10M are engaged production printing to some degree.
It’s not just the larger dealers who can make money in production printing. Brian Balow, Ricoh’s VP of U.S. channel sales and services, shared in our September issue that the time is now for dealers to make the leap into production printing. “For dealers, the question is no longer, ‘Why should I get into production printing?’ Rather, it’s, ‘If you’re in the printing business, why not do production?’”
